ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!!!
RULERS AND THE WORLD’S POWERFUL
YOU HAVE GONE BEYOND EVERY LIMIT!!
Through capitalism, free-market ideology and uncontrolled globalisation, you have degraded the value of work and encouraged the rise of dominant financial groups that have plunged the real economy into crisis, created poverty, growing inequality and the unsustainable exploitation of natural resources.
Subsequently, you exploited the growing distrust in democratic rules in order to pursue a political strategy based on populism and on the substantial concentration of power in the hands of the leader.
But, betraying the hopes of citizens, you have used that power to pursue blatant programmes of personal success and enrichment, territorial expansion, new colonialism, the extermination of populations in order to seize their territories, walls against immigration and the freedom to kill older immigrants, as well as the exclusive possession of the remaining energy resources and of those resources, such as rare earths, required for digital development and the potential of AI.
Furthermore, in order to carry out these programmes, you have used force, violence, the power of weapons and every other possible inhuman action, such as imposing tariffs that disrupt economies, starving people and spreading terror by bombing even civilian and energy infrastructure. You have violated every right: international, human, civil and social.
All this has triggered a general arms race, whether for attack or defence and, because of various interests and relationships, a state of war has developed that has extended to the Persian Gulf and increasingly threatens Europe as well, given the challenges that Putin intends to pose to NATO; furthermore, the closure of shipping routes through the Strait of Hormuz has caused, globally, a shortage of energy products, resulting in an industrial crisis and rising prices, to the particular detriment of the less affluent sections of society.
Thus, there is a general race for weapons that are increasingly powerful and precise in their destructive capabilities, together with renewed attention to nuclear weapons. This has consequently led to the stagnation of every programme aimed at solving the many problems that already exist (the climate crisis, pollution, environmental sustainability, social justice, etc.).
In conclusion, you powerful people have used power to pursue personal ambitions, in ways that have set Humanity on a path towards self-destruction through armed conflicts and that, as a consequence, are also allowing Nature to unleash all its forces of retaliation and destruction against the unworthy human guest. Extreme heat and violent storms now alternate, and experts have raised the alarm: the situation is moving towards a further increase in heat, which will be persistent and no longer bearable for human society. It will be our end. An end towards which we are heading by anticipating every possible form of destruction through armed conflicts, instead of intervening immediately and effectively to address the climate crisis.
The principal parties responsible for all this are Russia, Israel and the United States and, on a personal level, Putin, Netanyahu and Trump, because of their actions, which need not be described in detail, since they are well known through the daily work of the media. Their responsibility is becoming increasingly serious, through the deception of proposed agreements that are never concluded or last only a few days; and which, moreover, even if they were concluded, would not erase responsibility for all the disastrous consequences already caused and still not remedied (so much for a Nobel Prize!!).
Therefore, civil society must wake up and react! Before the actions of these unworthy lovers of armed violence bring the situation to the point of no return and towards the destruction of humanity. And those who currently gain political, military or economic advantages from this situation should not delude themselves; nor should those who still possess wealth or sufficient prosperity remain indifferent: these are conditions that, even in the unlikely event that the climate still gives us time, will not last, because destruction and violence, now suffered by the lowest and most defenceless sections of society, will spread, and the resulting economic and social collapse in every sector will lead to a social struggle of everyone against everyone. A struggle that, also facilitated by technological development, will be waged with AI as a weapon at every level of society, through its ability to penetrate and disrupt rules and systems of operation.
Therefore, this situation and these prospects compel everyone—absolutely everyone—to react, take action and cooperate, so that, first and foremost, the destructive use of armed force may be brought to an end, followed by a timely return to conditions of peace which, through general cooperation and the availability of funds no longer allocated to armed conflicts will make it possible to launch all the reforms necessary to restore the climate to normal and then, through interventions in the various sectors, re-establish all the rights of Nature and of the Human Community.
First phase. It is necessary to achieve: 1) a ceasefire, allowing immediate assistance in the form of healthcare, food and housing for populations who are victims of war; 2) intervention by the United Nations which, by majority decision and following the relinquishment or abolition of the five veto powers, which are now unjustifiable, resolves conflicts under terms that, taking into account the rights that have been violated and the economic, territorial and cultural interests of the parties, are fair, beneficial to all those concerned and responsive to the higher common interest; 3) general disarmament, leaving only the United Nations with an adequate armed force and allowing States to retain only what may be necessary for internal public-order purposes; 4) consequently, the dissolution of all armed alliances that are organised “against” others, whether for attack and/or defence, such as NATO; 5) without prejudice to accountability, and to the relevant proceedings, for crimes within the jurisdiction of the International Criminal Court, the creation of an economic reconstruction plan for destroyed cities and a compensation programme for the damage and suffering endured by populations affected by wars, with the essential financial burden placed upon the States responsible; 6) the restoration of freedom of navigation through the maritime straits blocked during wars.
Second phase. We must achieve the establishment of a system of international relations that goes beyond multilateralism and creates a supranational body which, while taking into account the particular characteristics of individual States, provides general guidelines in every sector, aimed at implementing the higher interest of the entire human community. (The practical details governing these relations, within each State, among States and between them and the supranational body, as well as all the specific measures which, in the various sectors, would create that better world that respects all rights, saves Nature in all its aspects and ensures complete social justice, have already all been envisaged; however, their examination and necessary updating form part of the second phase and are therefore postponed until a later stage, when we have already achieved the essential changes of the first phase and created the supranational body suitable for governance at the global level.)
Then, let us declare these demands of ours to the world’s powerful through a general demonstration, to be held simultaneously in every country, together with the simultaneous creation, in each country, of a political party to which all demonstrators may belong, which includes all our demands in its programme and which therefore makes clear to the world’s powerful that, in every forthcoming election, all of our votes will be cast for that programme and therefore for that party. Demonstrations alone are not enough: the powerful are accustomed to ignoring them and are skilled at making them fade away. The party is indispensable; it is the instrument that makes the revolutionary action of civil society democratic and can make its demands legitimate.
This requires the demonstration to have such a geographical reach and level of participation that it acquires global significance. Therefore, participation must include not only those who are suffering violations of their rights in relation to work or any other area, but also those who, although well-off, wealthy or powerful, have become aware of how real the above-mentioned prospect of the imminent destruction of the entire human community is. It must also include all those who, because of their own culture and values, do not share the present world of violence and discrimination and are willing to take action; and likewise all those social groups which, as institutions, associations, political parties, movements or religions, are already active in advocating and demanding the necessary changes. The participation of such groups is important and may take place while maintaining their own identity and corresponding visibility. In particular, all religions, which have always been active in seeking the salvation of Humanity, are called upon to intervene together with their followers. An example is the daily preaching of Pope Leo XIV, who calls upon the powerful to put an end to wars and the massacre of people and the destruction of infrastructure and who, in accordance with the Church’s social doctrine, calls for the elimination of every form of discrimination and for the achievement of social justice; exactly as envisaged by the measures set out in the aforementioned first phase and by those reserved for the final phase in order to restore a world based on total respect for the rights of Nature and of the Human Community.
Therefore, let everyone take part in the demonstration, let everyone join the forementioned political party, and let everyone show the joyful energy that comes from the awareness of being the authors of a path that finally takes action to bring about salvation; a joyful energy that the many existing musical bands can make tangible by taking part with their music and filling the squares: a revolutionary yet democratic, conscious, and joyful path. Moreover, let everyone contribute to the organization of this revolutionary undertaking according to their own abilities and availability: by providing the initial information in the main languages and throughout every part of the Globe (also involving all those countries where the revolt of “Generation Z,” demanding rights and better living conditions and shaking the world, from Serbia to Madagascar, is already active); by gathering demonstrators, producing posters, creating the party and collecting memberships; and by collecting and honestly and transparently managing financial contributions. In this regard, the rich and the super-rich should contribute sums that meaningfully reflect their commitment, and the principal leaders responsible for the current wars—Putin, Netanyahu, and Trump—should contribute significant sums as an expression of repentance, proportionate to the material, physical, and moral damage caused, if they wish to hope that a general willingness to forgive may develop.
This is what we want and what we urgently need to demonstrate in order to achieve it, with the support of the world’s powerful people. And if that support does not come, and the powerful ignore the demonstration and continue with armed conflicts, we will not resort to weapons; instead, the party that will have been formed in every State will intervene to enable us to prevail. It will act to gain political power in every State in order, in any case, to bring about the salvation of the environment, of all Nature, and of the Human Community. We will, in any case, carry out the revolution democratically.
Here my proposal for a democratic revolution against the current violent way in which our World exists comes to an end. I will take part in the demonstration, even dancing if there is music; I will join the proposed party and will make myself available whenever important decisions have to be made. But I am ninety-two years old and a person of thought rather than of organizational experience; therefore, at the very least, I will try to collaborate at the local level. However, I trust that the general organizational aspect described above—extremely complex and difficult—will be adequately carried out by suitable and capable people with experience.
In particular, it will be my task to submit for consideration the many writings concerning the individual specific measures in each sector, relating to the final phase.
For those who are impatient, I would point you to my blog, “civilsocietyleading.com,” where you can find: a November 2024 version of “Enough Now!!!,” which also contains a proposal for a possible solution to the Russia/Ukraine war; an “Electoral Programme,” which, for several pages of detailed measures, refers to pages in another work entitled “A Programme of the Left (but for Everyone),” from February 2020 and consisting of 111 pages (this also contains a programme for Europe, which I still consider relevant today); as well as the book that forms the basis of my culture, entitled “From Crises to a Better World: With Civil Society,” a book whose English translation had the honour of being appreciated and placed in their libraries by two great figures: the South African Archbishop Desmond Tutu and the Indian economist Rajendra Pachauri. On the blog you can also find an autobiography, “In My 87 Years” (sincere and truthful). For those who do not already know me as an athlete, there is information on my Facebook profile; moreover, an internet search for “Vanda Vincenzo FIDAL” leads to an article by Podistica Solidarietà describing my entire sporting career, from the age of 12 to the present day.
So, are we ready? Let us immediately begin the necessary work so that we can be ready and timely immediately after the summer period. Ready for the great demonstration, on a suitable date and for an appropriate duration, sometime between September and October; a period during which the electoral campaign in Italy will also begin (there is talk of elections on 4 April next year or in May).
I am beginning by giving this cause the widest possible exposure through this letter, direct contacts, and social media. I hope that the initiative will achieve immediate success, so that news of it will reach the media and be further spread by them. The blog civilsocietyleading.com and the email address vandavincenzo@gmail.com are available for contact with organizers, for information, and for my contributions.
